How Shark Week Panties Got My Art To Los Angeles

I have been following New Profanity on Instagram for a while. They carry awesome stuff by independent artists (like PJ Superior, whose work I also love).

Some time ago the owner at New Profanity posted picture of a thong that had a shark on the front in bloody water and I had to comment how much I loved it. I wasn’t expecting even a reply. I just really liked the thong and wanted to say something.

The store owner saw my comment. She replied with a link to her online store where I could buy the panties and “PS- I wish you were in LA. I’d love to carry your art in my store!!!”

The owner and I messaged back and forth a few times. I ended up putting some work in a box and shipping it out from my tiny Tennessee studio…

AND NOW four of my paintings and a lot of my prints are sitting at New Profanity on Melrose Ave. in Los Angeles, California!

I couldn’t be more thrilled about it. The owner is super helpful and cool. The store is in the best location. I’m being exposed to people who probably wouldn’t have stumbled across my work on their own. And I am sharing space with artists whose works I really admire. All because I commented on a funny thong on instagram.

Love, Liz
