The idea behind this collection is that everyone presents themselves differently to the world. Masks and personas are a part of that, but so is removing those masks. With actors their job is taking on different personas. Celebrities take on an exaggerated version of themselves to stand out. People in the closet present themselves to the world differently than people who are out. Trans people present as the sex that they are and not the sex they were born with. People with chronic illness wear masks of health and happiness even when they are suffering.
My main goal with this collection is to normalize the different ways in which people present themselves to the world. How we present ourselves to the world has as much to do with who we really are as it does with how we want to be perceived.
This collection will make it's debut during my next solo exhibit at New Profanity in Los Angeles on June 4th, 2020.
